Jaca is as synonymous with sport as it is with mountains, snow and ice. Its sporting vocation is no accident, but rather the natural result of a privileged location on the slopes of the Pyrenean mountain range. Amidst an unrivalled scenery of towering peaks, fast-flowing rivers and beautiful paths, Jaca is the ideal starting point for suggestive encounters with a nature that offers unlimited possibilities.
Jaca’s central location and excellent sports facilities have made the city one of Aragon’s leading references, reinforced by the activity of its many clubs and the deep-rooted sporting culture of its citizens.
As well as indoor sports, Jaca’s environment offers a wide range of activities linked to nature and snow. The Pyrenean mountains are a luxurious setting for skiing, hiking, climbing, canyoning, horse riding, mountain biking and cycle touring, golf, motorless flight and all the new leisure activities linked to adventure sports. The leisure opportunities in Jaca are truly inexhaustible.
The municipality, along with Roncesvalles and Espinal, forms a basin between the peaks of Mount Corona to the east, Mendiaundi and Menditxuri to the west, Bagoandi to the south and Lindus, El Castillo, Girizu and Ortzantzurieta to the north. Ortzantzurieta has the highest altitude at 1,570m. In this watershed, whose capital is Rocesvalles, we can find the division of waters between the Mediterranean and the Cantabrian.
For the less adventurous, the central plain of Burguete offers a wide range of paths between the beech trees, easy for any walker to follow. On any given route, you can hear the songs of hundreds of birds, but only the luckiest will be lucky enough to come across such emblematic species as the Chinese crested hoopoe, the killer whale or the little black cock. Undoubtedly, this part of the Navarre Pyrenees is an admirable setting where through its paths we can find a beautiful landscape and nature spoiled by its inhabitants and the people who pass through it.
